In 2016, engineers Anu Mahajan and Gil Levendel founded TinkRworks in Hinsdale, Illinois, to inspire young innovators through a local summer science camp. After its success, they created K-8 STEAM projects based on real-world applications, collaborating with Chicago educators to align with science, math, and computer science standards. Teachers quickly adopted TinkRworks for afterschool and summer programs.
Today, TinkRworks is a leading STEM/STEAM partner for hundreds of U.S. schools, seamlessly integrated into classrooms, STEM/STEAM labs, and enrichment programs like summer school and STEM/STEAM clubs.
Bringing STEM/STEAM into the classroom engages students while encouraging exploration and critical thinking.
Putting professional development at the core creates an ethos of support that furthers teaching quality and confidence.
The Challenges students may face in a project-based learning environment build growth mindsets.

Co-Founder and Chief
Technology Officer
Gil is the co-founder and Chief Technology Officer of TinkRworks. As a child, Gil loved building. He often stacked wood blocks into tall, complex structures. He also built self-designed contraptions using Lego Technics parts, often sending instant photos of his models to Lego for their review and then hoping for their inclusion into a future Lego set. One day while he was playing with his Legos, his older sister came home from school with an assignment that required help. As their dad and she worked together, Gil observed their interaction and immediately became interested in the subject matter—computer programming. Gil is committed to provide the same sort of exposure to STEAM subjects that he was fortunate enough to receive as a young student.
Product Development Manager
Brian’s passion for tinkering started when he was a kid in his family’s workshop. After earning degrees in Physics and Materials Engineering, he found his way back to the shop where he collaborated with family and friends on projects and continued to build on his experience with new tools and technology. What started as tinkering evolved into a love for product development and design. His goal is to make TinkRworks projects and curriculum approachable, impactful, and accessible to all students and educators. Outside of the shop Brian enjoys golf, tennis, and experimenting in the kitchen.

From childhood, Ketki’s father instilled the importance of learning and the right to education for social and economic growth. This, along with volunteering at schools and being a mom, inspired her to bring STEAM education to students at an early age. Her experience in engineering, managing, and passion for education is what led her to TinkRworks. She enjoys supporting STEAM learning and believes in TinkRworks vision to transform learners into innovators. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, baking with her kids, and exploring different cuisines in Chicago.

“From an administrator’s point of view, the biggest success is that teachers enjoy using TinkRworks in their classrooms. They see their students engaged in something rigorous and relevant and that leads to a classroom that is well-managed. Students want to participate. You can’t say that about a lot of programs.”
Director of North Central CTE Cooperative
“TinkRworks not only teaches students science and coding but also develops life skills. Students get to practice how to solve problems by talking them through and communicating with their peers. You literally see their confidence grow.”
K-8 STEM Teacher at St. Isaac Jocques
“Even our special education students benefit from TinkRworks. There’s little that makes us happier than seeing equity and access at work with every student accessing the curriculum—and flying their own drones in the middle school hallway!”
Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction, and Student Services at Gower School District 62
