The Frances Xavier Warde School Transforms Elementary Science with TinkRworks

At The Frances Xavier Warde School (FXW) in Chicago, Illinois, Lindsay Mosshammer was determined to move beyond the rigid, textbook-driven approach to teaching science. With a focus on fostering creativity and critical thinking, she sought a solution that would allow her students to engage actively with science concepts, rather than just following preset instructions. A New Kind of Science Experience

Mosshammer began using TinkRworks with her second-grade class, where students embarked on projects like Pampered Plant, combining coding, electronics, and design to create their own plant monitoring systems. First graders also participated in Smart Lamp, designing their own programmable lamps. The hands-on nature of the projects sparked excitement among the students, allowing them to dive deep into the scientific process through exploration and discovery.
